20-60 minutes from the cabin · half a day · all year round
Bucovina isn’t only monasteries and mountains. When it rains, the best plan is a day of small museums, where you see painted eggs, what a house looked like a hundred years ago and why every village had its own costume. They are all less than an hour from the cabin.

Painted eggs
The craft of egg painting has a rich tradition in Bucovina. At the Egg Museum in Vama you can discover painted eggs and the decorative motifs typical of this art.
If you also get as far as Moldovița, it is worth stopping at the “Lucia Condrea” Egg Museum: eggs painted by the artist, old eggs from the Hutsul villages and eggs from all over the world.
The Museum of Folk Customs of Bucovina, Gura Humorului
Costumes, tools, masks and objects linked to the festivals of the year, carefully gathered, twenty minutes from the cabin. The visit takes about an hour, and the best chapter is the one on winter masks and customs, which helps you understand what you are seeing if you are in the villages between Christmas and Epiphany.

Houses and workshops in the villages
In the surrounding villages you can still find farmsteads with a barn, a bread oven and a weaving loom, some of them open to those who want to see them. Some of these farmsteads have no public visiting hours. A visit is only possible with the owners’ agreement, and someone from the village can help you get in touch with them. This, in fact, is the part that can’t be copied: our neighbours do these things because that is how they have always been done, not for tourists.
The taste of the place
You can buy urdă and caș, the fresh local cheeses, from producers in the village, and we will tell you where to go when you arrive. If you would rather not cook at all, someone from the village can cook for the whole group at the cabin, and you choose the menu after booking. And if you want to see where it all comes from, go up to the sheepfold between June and September.
